700 Refugees Return Safely as Troops Nab ISWAP Logistics Suspect in Borno
Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected ISWAP logistics supplier and successfully facilitated the safe return of 700 Nigerian refugees from Cameroon into Borno State.
A credible military source told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the second phase of the voluntary repatriation took place at the Banki border in Bama Local Government Area.
“Troops of 152 Task Force Battalion, alongside other security agencies, provided maximum security during and after the exercise to ensure the safety of the returnees,” the source said.
The returnees arrived at the border on 31 January and were subsequently integrated into Banki town, with relief materials including mats and accommodation support provided by the Federal Government through the National Refugee Commission and in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). The Borno State Governmentassisted with the distribution.
Meanwhile, combined troops of 273 Task Force Tank Battalion and 29 Task Force Brigade apprehended a suspected ISWAP/JAS logistics supplier at Jakana village, Konduga LGA on Monday. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, a Jakana indigene, had been supporting terrorist operations in the area and is currently in military custody for further interrogation.
The source also noted that troops of Battle Group IV, during offensive operations along the Mulumkoloye axis, recovered bicycles, sacks of vandalised cables, and iron rods believed to have been abandoned by fleeing criminals.
Additional operations by 73 Battalion, supported by the Civilian Joint Task Force and Hybrid Force, included cordon and search missions in Mashirmami general area, aimed at flushing out suspected terrorists and collaborators.
The military source highlighted that these successes reflect sustained pressure on terrorist networks, degradation of their logistics chains, and reinforced efforts to restore security and normalcy across Borno and the wider North-East.
