After Kwara Bloodshed, Tinubu Meets AbdulRazaq, Orders Fresh Military Push

President Bola Tinubu has met with Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, following the deadly terrorist attack on Woro village in Kaiama Local Government Area, vowing decisive military action and justice for the victims.

The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, was disclosed by the president in a post on X late Thursday night, after he received a detailed briefing from the governor on the scale and impact of the attack.

Earlier, President Tinubu had strongly condemned the assault, describing it as a “cowardly and beastly attack” carried out by “heartless gunmen” who targeted defenceless civilians for rejecting extremist ideology.

“Their actions offend our humanity, our faith, and our shared values as a nation,” the president said.

Boko Haram terrorists, reportedly led by Mallam Sadiku, invaded Woro on Tuesday evening and unleashed terror for several hours into the early hours of Wednesday. According to Salihu Umar, the village head, the attack persisted without any immediate security intervention.

Mr Umar disclosed that two of his sons were among at least 75 people already buried, while his wife and three daughters were abducted during the assault. Although state authorities put the death toll at 75, local sources insist the number of casualties exceeds 100. The police are yet to confirm an official figure.

In response, President Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the area, tasking it to lead Operation Savannah Shield, a new security push aimed at flushing out the terrorists and protecting vulnerable communities.

“The new military command will spearhead Operation Savannah Shield to checkmate these barbaric terrorists and protect defenceless communities,” the president said.

Commending the courage of the victims, Mr Tinubu noted that the attackers targeted Muslims who refused to embrace violent extremism disguised as religion.

“Nigeria will never surrender its people to extremism and terrorism masquerading as faith,” he declared.

The president also directed close coordination between federal and state agencies to deliver immediate relief to affected residents and pursue the attackers.

“They will be hunted down, just like other terrorists before them. They will not go scot-free,” he vowed.

President Tinubu offered prayers for the victims and extended condolences to bereaved families, the people of Kaiama, and the Kwara State Government.

“The Federal Government stands with you,” he said. “We will protect our communities, defend our values, and defeat those who seek to divide us through terror.”
