Obi Cubana Joins City Boy Movement as South-East Director Amid Mixed Reactions

The businessman vows to use his influence for constructive engagement and community growth in his new role with Seyi Tinubu’s youth-led initiative.

Nigerian businessman and socialite Obinna “Obi Cubana” Iyiegbu has been appointed South-East Director of the City Boy Movement (CBM), the youth-driven support group that backed President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 elections. The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes amid mixed reactions across social media and the political landscape.

The appointment letter was presented by Seyi Tinubu, CBM’s patron, alongside the Director-General Francis Shoga, National Coordinator Favour Abayomi, and Stanley Uzochukwu, Chairman of Stanel Group, in Abuja. In a video shared on CBM’s X page, Seyi praised Cubana for his influence among Southern Nigerian youths and thanked him for his consistent support of the current administration.

Speaking on his Instagram page, the 50-year-old businessman acknowledged the diverse opinions about his appointment but emphasized his commitment to constructive engagement rather than staying on the sidelines.

“Service continues to guide me, and this new role does nothing to alter my commitment to integrity, community growth, and responsible leadership… I am a City Boy through and through, inside and out,” Cubana said.

He also stressed the importance of inclusive engagement in realizing Nigeria’s aspirations:

“Our nation’s leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is a City Boy and a man of commerce. All of us need all of us to achieve our national goals… Let’s respect differing views, keep conversations vibrant, and stay focused on building real value. The moment is now — we move!”

The appointment follows Cubana’s recent advocacy urging President Tinubu to address issues raised by the Igbo community, including the release of Biafra agitator Nnamdi Kanu. The businessman previously noted ongoing behind-the-scenes efforts to resolve these political and social concerns while maintaining unity and peace within the region.

Cubana’s new role places him at the intersection of youth mobilization, political engagement, and regional representation, positioning him as a key influencer in efforts to advance the CBM’s vision of leadership, collaboration, and national development.
