‘Peace Deal’ Crumbles: Terrorists Storm Katsina Village, K!ll 23, Burn Homes
Barely months after authorities announced a controversial peace deal with armed groups, terrorists on Tuesday launched a deadly attack on Doma village in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing at least 23 residents and injuring many others.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported that the attackers were actively overrunning the community, forcing residents to flee in panic as sustained gunfire echoed through the village.
According to reports gathered by SaharaReporters, the assailants—believed to be bandits operating in the area—stormed Doma in large numbers, moving from house to house, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze. Several residents sustained gunshot wounds, while others remain missing as families continue frantic searches for loved ones.
Confirming the casualty figure, a security alert platform, Bakatsine, disclosed that at least 23 men were killed in the attack. The platform also noted that Faskari is among the local government areas where authorities had recently claimed to have reached a peace agreement with bandit groups terrorising communities across Katsina State.
The renewed violence has heightened fear in Doma, with residents once again living under the shadow of insecurity despite assurances of peace. The attack is particularly shocking because it occurred after a reported surrender and peace agreement between Faskari LGA stakeholders and bandit leaders, which was expected to end hostilities and enable displaced villagers to return home.
Instead, the latest assault has left homes and vehicles destroyed, families displaced, and serious questions raised about the effectiveness and credibility of the much-publicised peace deal.
