Awka, Anambra State — A 29-year-old woman, Edeh Osinachi, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command for allegedly torturing a 17-year-old house help with a hot pressing iron. The horrific incident reportedly occurred because the teenager used her employer’s phone without permission.
The police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, noting that the suspect was handed over to the police by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on Tuesday.
“As part of our continuous commitment to the welfare and safety of students and pupils in the state, the suspect, Mrs. Edeh Osinachi, was received by the Anambra State Police Command. She allegedly abused and inflicted serious injuries on a 17-year-old girl who was her house help,” the statement read.
How the Abuse Was Discovered
The victim’s injuries were first noticed by school officials during a teaching session. Upon inquiry, the teenager disclosed that her guardian had inflicted the wounds after she made phone calls without consent.
According to preliminary investigations, Osinachi reportedly confessed to using a hot pressing iron on the girl as a form of punishment. The school authorities acted quickly to alert the Ministry of Education, which subsequently involved the police.
Police Response and Public Warning
SP Ikenga praised the vigilance of the school authorities and assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice is served.
“The Command also urges parents to give birth to the number of children they can adequately train, to avoid leaving them vulnerable to abuse while in the care of others,” the statement added.
The incident has reignited concerns about the safety of domestic workers and minors in private households across Anambra State, highlighting the urgent need for stricter oversight and protective measures.
