“They Made Me Clean Faeces Daily” — 17-Year-Old Boy Who Went Viral for Standing in Front of Peter Obi’s Convoy Shares His Painful Prison Story

Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the 17-year-old who captured national attention after a photo of him standing boldly in front of Peter Obi's convoy went viral during the 2023 general elections, has finally broken his silence — and his story is heartbreaking.

In January 2025, Quadri was arrested by the police and later arraigned in court. He’s been in prison custody ever since. His situation only came to public light recently after a concerned young woman raised the alarm online, urging Nigerians to come together to demand justice for the teenager.

According to the police, Quadri was allegedly involved in a violent street fight in the Amukoko area of Lagos. But Quadri insists he was wrongly accused. Speaking during a live interview on Channels TV, he recounted that up until his arrest, he worked as a motorboy, helping a fish delivery driver with daily rounds.

On the day he was picked up, Quadri said he had just completed his day’s work, collected his wages, and was about to enter his compound when police officers stopped him. Without explanation, he says, they accused him of being involved in a fight he knew nothing about — and just like that, his nightmare began.

Of all those arrested, Quadri was the youngest. While in prison, he was made to clean out human waste from a pit latrine used by inmates — a job he described with quiet pain.

Despite everything, Quadri’s spirit remains unbroken. He shared that all he wants now is a chance to go back to school — and he’s asking for help to make that dream come true.

Thankfully, Nigerians are responding. So far, over ₦10 million has been raised by kind-hearted individuals to support Quadri's education and fresh start.
