BREAKING: Gunmen Kidnap APC Chairman in Ondo State — Abducted at Farm Entrance
The wave of insecurity troubling parts of Nigeria has once again reared its head, this time in Ondo State. In a disturbing and tragic development, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted a prominent local political figure — Nelson Olaseyinde Adepoyigi, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ose Local Government Area.
According to verified reports reaching NaijaRush, the kidnapping occurred on the evening of Monday, May 12, 2025, along the Benin-Ifon-Owo expressway, a route notorious for being poorly secured and prone to attacks. The victim, Mr. Adepoyigi, serves as the chairman of the APC in Ifon Ward 5, which falls within Ose Local Government.
What makes the incident particularly alarming is that the kidnapping reportedly happened right at the entrance of his own farm. This raises concerns about just how bold and fearless these criminals have become, as they now target citizens even in places that are supposed to be safe and personal, like their own farmlands.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, Superintendent Olayinka Ayanlade, officially confirmed the incident. He stated clearly:
“I can confirm to you that the chairman APC ward 5 was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm along Ifon-Owo road,” he said.
This statement has sent shockwaves through the political and local community, as many wonder what could have motivated the attack and how it happened without immediate police intervention.
Superintendent Ayanlade further added that security forces have not taken the matter lightly. According to him:
“At the receipt of the report, the DPO Ifon, in collaboration with the hunters, local VGN and Nigeria Army personnel, have launched a manhunt for the suspects.”
This means that as of now, a joint security operation is underway — involving not just the Nigeria Police, but also local hunters, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), and personnel from the Nigerian Army. This level of collaboration shows the seriousness of the situation and the urgency of finding Mr. Adepoyigi safe and alive.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) also made a public appeal, calling on citizens to assist with any useful information that could help track down the kidnappers or locate the victim. He said the police and other security agencies need the help of the public more than ever in this kind of situation.
The PPRO urged anyone with information that could aid the rescue operation to come forward.
As the hours go by, the family, friends, political allies, and constituents of Mr. Adepoyigi are left in a state of shock, confusion, and fear — praying for his safe return and hoping the abductors will be caught and brought to justice.
This unfortunate event once again highlights the growing insecurity challenges across the country — especially in rural areas where political figures, farmers, and travelers are often left vulnerable.
NaijaRush will continue to monitor this situation closely and provide updates as soon as more information becomes available. For now, we join the rest of the community in hoping for Mr. Adepoyigi’s safe release.
