Delta Police Nab Two Brothers Over Shocking N70M K!dn@p and Robb3ry in Abraka
In a shocking development that has sent waves through the Abraka community, two brothers identified as Maxwell Mathew and Samuel Mathew have been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a man, Patrick Omoregie, in the university town of Abraka, located in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to multiple sources, including human rights activist Comrade Israel Joe, the suspects—described as a two-man gang—have long been a menace to residents of Abraka. Their criminal streak reportedly culminated in the violent abduction of Mr. Omoregie, from whom they allegedly withdrew a staggering N70 million at gunpoint.
The ordeal didn’t end with just the monetary theft. The assailants also allegedly carted away several high-value personal items, including a Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, an iPhone 16 Plus, and an additional N150,000 in cash.
Speaking on the arrest, Comrade Joe confirmed the details in a statement made on Wednesday, May 6, 2025. He revealed that the suspects were apprehended at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, where they were reportedly plotting to sell off the stolen vehicle.
In a startling confession during interrogation, the suspects admitted to using part of the stolen funds to pay their mother’s rent in Abraka—an act that has only intensified public outrage.
Law enforcement authorities have so far been able to recover approximately N30 million out of the N70 million allegedly siphoned from Mr. Omoregie’s bank account.
The case has since been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Delta State Police Command for a more in-depth investigation. This specialized unit is expected to handle the case with the urgency and thoroughness it demands.
Comrade Joe has called for swift justice, urging the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to "ensure a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspects to serve as a deterrent to other criminals."
The incident has sparked fresh concerns over the escalating rate of violent crime in Delta communities, particularly in university towns like Abraka, which are supposed to be centers of learning and development.
