Jackie Chan Reveals When He Plans to Retire — And It Might Surprise You!
Movie legend Jackie Chan has finally opened up about retirement — and fans might be shocked by what he had to say.
In a recent interview with Haute Living on Tuesday, May 6, the Rush Hour star talked about his new film, Karate Kid: Legends, and reflected on his long career in action movies.
Even at 71 years old, Jackie Chan shows no signs of slowing down. Despite growing concerns about his health, the martial arts icon says he’s still doing all his stunts by himself — and plans to keep it that way.
“Of course, I always do my own stunts. It’s who I am,” he insisted. “That’s not changing until the day I retire, which is never!”
With more than six decades in the movie industry, Jackie said that he doesn’t even need to prepare physically anymore.
“When you’ve done it for 64 years straight, there’s no physical preparation anymore,” Chan continued.
“Everything is in your heart and soul; it is muscle memory.”
He also shared how much action scenes have changed since he first got started in 1962.
“In the old days, the only way was to be there and jump; that’s it,” Chan explained.
“Today, with computers, actors can do anything, but there’s always a sense of reality that you feel is missing.”
While he respects how technology has changed the industry, Jackie called it a “double-edged sword.”
“On one hand, actors become more and more capable of doing impossible stunts with the help of technology,” Chan said.
“And yet, on the other hand, the concept of danger and limit gets blurred and the audience is numb.”
Still, he knows that doing your own stunts is risky — and he doesn’t recommend it for others.
“But I’m not encouraging anybody to risk their lives to do the stunts like I did,” Chan said.
“It truly is too dangerous.”
Jackie Chan began his career at just 8 years old, appearing as an extra in the Cantonese film Big and Little Wong Tin Bar. Since then, he’s become one of the biggest names in global cinema — and it sounds like he’s not planning to stop anytime soon.
