Kano Governor Hails DSS Over Arrest of Suspects in Brutal Murder of 1-Year-Old Girl
The Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised the Department of State Services (DSS) for their quick and effective response in arresting five suspects linked to the tragic kidnapping and gruesome murder of one-year-old Sakina Mamuda in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area.
According to a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, the suspects allegedly kidnapped the infant and demanded ransom from her family. Sadly, after receiving the money, they went on to kill her and dump her lifeless body in an abandoned well.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu. Shockingly, they are all from the same community as their young victim in Gwarzo LGA. The DSS is currently investigating them for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.
Speaking at a joint press conference held at the Kano Government House, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, along with the Commissioner for Information and other top officials, promised that justice will be served swiftly and without compromise.
Governor Yusuf, visibly saddened by the heartbreaking incident, commended the security agencies for their dedication.
"This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor stated. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”
He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to boosting security across the state, with more investment in intelligence gathering, logistics, and better collaboration between security agencies.
Furthermore, the Governor urged the public to stay vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by sharing useful information that can help fight crime.
He assured residents that his government would continue to equip all security formations with the tools they need to tackle criminal activities head-on.
The incident has sparked outrage across the state, with many people calling for quick prosecution of the suspects and strict punishment for anyone who harms innocent children.
