Kano Woman Arraigned for Allegedly Marrying Two Husbands Simultaneously
A woman has been brought before a Kano Upper Shari'a Court in the Post Office area of Kano Municipality on charges of allegedly marrying two husbands at the same time.
Harira Muhammad Tudun Murtala, who had been married to her first husband, Sagiru Shuaibu T/Murtala, for six months, is said to have been living separately from him during this period. However, things took a turn when Sagiru visited her home and allegedly found another man in their matrimonial bed, which prompted him to notify neighbors about the situation.
When Harira appeared before the court, she initially denied being married to Sagiru. However, after the judge ordered her to swear by the Qur'an, she retracted her statement and admitted to the marriage.
The second husband, Bello Abdullahi Yankaba, also testified in court, revealing that their marriage was arranged by her uncle, Abdullahi Umar, and the dowry of N100,000 had been paid.
The presiding judge, Khadi Munzali Tanko Soron-Dinki, ordered further investigations by the police and remanded both the woman and her second husband in a custodial facility until May 16.
