Kidnappers Demand N500K Ransom for 5-Year-Old Girl Abducted in Lagos
The family of a five-year-old girl, Memunah Abdulrahman, who was kidnapped in Lagos, is living in fear after her abductors demanded a ransom of N500,000 for her release.
The incident happened on March 9, 2025, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State. Memunah was on her way home from an Islamic school with her sister when a suspected kidnapper approached them near a popular supermarket in the area.
According to reports, the suspect lured the children into the store under the pretense of buying them something. But while pretending to shop, the suspect disappeared with Memunah, leaving her sister behind.
Her father, Abdurrahman Alimi, spoke to Punch about the latest development, revealing that the kidnappers contacted the family last month using a hidden phone number.
“It was almost a month after my daughter was abducted that they called us. They hid their phone numbers and asked us to pay N500,000 before they would release my daughter. They hung up the phone and have not called back since then. I believe my daughter is still alive," he said.
Alimi said the matter was reported to the police, who advised them to ask the kidnappers to reach out via WhatsApp.
“We don’t know what the police are doing about it. On Friday, it will be exactly two months since my daughter was abducted."
The Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Owohunwa Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case.
Although SCID officers reportedly visited the Ejigbo community shortly after the order was given, Alimi said the family has heard nothing new about the case since then.
