Man Posing as 'Mentally Unstable' Arrested with 27 SIM Cards in Lagos – What Was He Really Up To?

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) has made a significant arrest in Epe, apprehending one Godwin, who was allegedly disguising himself as a mentally unstable individual. He was found to be in possession of 27 registered SIM cards under suspicious circumstances.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the arrest followed multiple complaints from residents of Epe who noticed Godwin’s suspicious behavior over a period of time. Locals reported seeing the suspect frequently taking refuge in an abandoned building located near the T-junction in Epe. He was often spotted changing his clothes each morning and engaging in late-night phone conversations, raising concerns about his true intentions.

The community’s concerns prompted swift action from the LNSC. During a routine patrol on May 5, officers received information from residents that Godwin was absent from his usual hiding spot. In response, the officers decided to search the security post where Godwin had been seen on previous occasions. Their search led to the discovery of 27 registered SIM cards concealed within a section of a block wall.

The agency’s statement further revealed details of the arrest: “On May 5, during a routine patrol, officers were informed by residents that the suspect was temporarily absent from the area. Acting swiftly, the patrol team searched the structure and discovered 27 registered SIM cards concealed within a section of a block wall. Officers were immediately dispatched, and Mr. Godwin was arrested shortly after his return to the location. During interrogation, he confirmed his identity and background but declined to reveal the location of any mobile phones linked to the SIM cards.”

A local food vendor, who had observed Godwin’s erratic behavior, corroborated the residents' accounts, stating that although Godwin appeared mentally sound on many occasions, his peculiar lifestyle seemed to suggest otherwise. This has raised further questions about his activities and the possible intent behind his possession of multiple SIM cards.

The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation. However, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed rumors suggesting that Godwin may be involved in kidnapping activities, citing a lack of evidence to support such claims. The police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s actions and the potential connections of the SIM cards found in his possession.

This arrest serves as a reminder of the vigilance required to protect local communities from individuals who may be operating under false pretenses. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Lagos State.
