NaijaRush Crime Report: Repeat Offender Nabbed by Ketu Police While Attempting Midnight Robbery on Mile 12 Bridge
In a dramatic and courageous display of swift policing, officers of the Ketu Division under the Lagos State Police Command have once again proven their dedication to safeguarding lives and property in the state. In the early hours of Monday, May 13, 2025, around 1:30 AM, patrol officers arrested 28-year-old Olayinka Oluwaseyi for attempting to rob a male motorist on the notorious Mile 12 Bridge—a location that has unfortunately gained some reputation for criminal activities, especially during late hours.
According to reports, the suspect, Olayinka Oluwaseyi, was armed with two sharp knives, ready to use force against his unsuspecting victim. However, thanks to the quick response and timely intervention of the vigilant patrol team from Ketu Division, his plans were foiled on the spot.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t a solo operation. One other suspect, believed to be an accomplice of Olayinka, managed to flee the scene before he could be apprehended. The police have launched a manhunt and are currently working with intelligence teams to track him down.
Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest and provided some shocking details about the suspect’s criminal history. According to him, “Preliminary investigation revealed that Olayinka Oluwaseyi was released from prison three months ago for the same crime.” In other words, just a few months after being released for committing a similar offense, he has allegedly gone back to his old ways.
Hundeyin further disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody, and that investigations are still ongoing. Once the investigation is concluded, Olayinka is expected to be arraigned in court to face justice once again.
This incident has once more raised concerns about the cycle of repeat offenses and the challenges posed by ex-convicts who return to crime shortly after serving time. It also brings to light the continuous efforts by the police to curb such incidents despite limited resources and increasing urban crime pressure.
Reacting to the swift arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the professionalism and alertness of the patrol officers involved in the operation. In his words, “The vigilance and professionalism of the Ketu Division officers is commendable.”
He also used the opportunity to remind the public of the Lagos State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting criminality in all forms, especially street and traffic robberies which often leave victims traumatised.
CP Jimoh added, “The command maintains a firm stance against all forms of criminality, especially traffic robbery, and reassures Lagosians of the police’s readiness to clamp down on those who threaten the safety of residents.”
In addition, the Police Commissioner urged Lagosians not to remain silent in the face of suspicious behavior or criminal activity. He stressed the importance of public cooperation in the ongoing fight against crime in the state. “We urge members of the public to remain alert and cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious movements or individuals,” he stated.
With this latest arrest, it is evident that while criminals may continue to test the system, the police are not backing down in their responsibility to protect lives and maintain peace across the state. The Lagos State Police Command, especially officers at the divisional level like those in Ketu, are showing that with dedication and vigilance, the streets of Lagos can be made safer.
