Ordained as a priest in 1982, Prevost joined the Order of Saint Augustine and embarked on missionary work in Peru in 1985. Over two decades, he served in various capacities, including parish priest, seminary teacher, and eventually as Bishop of Chiclayo from 2015 to 2023. His deep commitment to the Peruvian people earned him the affectionate title "Padre Prevost" and, in some regions, "Saint of the North." He became a Peruvian citizen in 2015, reflecting his profound connection to the country.
