Tension in Ondo State as APC Ward Chairman, Hon. Nelson Adepoyigi, Abducted by Suspected Kidnappers – N100 Million Ransom Demanded
There was tension and panic in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, following the shocking abduction of a prominent politician, Hon. Nelson Adepoyigi, who serves as the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ward 5.
According to reports reaching NaijaRush, Hon. Adepoyigi was kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on the night of Monday, May 12, 2025. The incident occurred around 10pm while the APC chieftain was said to be parking his car. Eyewitnesses and local sources confirmed that the armed men stormed his compound and immediately descended on him. The attackers reportedly beat him with sticks before dragging him away forcefully to an unknown destination.
His wife, who was inside the house at the time of the attack, heard his cries for help and rushed out in a panic. Sadly, by the time she got to the scene, it was already too late. Her husband had been whisked away by the armed men, leaving her in a state of confusion and fear.
“The assailants stormed his compound, where they pounced on him with sticks before whisking him away,” a source told our correspondent.
The situation has thrown the entire Ifon community into panic, as residents express concern over the rising cases of insecurity in the area. Friends, family members, and party loyalists are deeply worried for the safety of Hon. Adepoyigi.
A family source also confirmed that the kidnappers have since reached out to the family. According to the source, the kidnappers are demanding a whopping ₦100 million ransom for the release of the APC chairman. The family is now in a dilemma, unsure of how to raise such a large sum of money in such a short time.
“The kidnappers had contacted the family of the politician, demanding ₦100 million ransom for his release,” the source added.
In response to the growing concerns and outrage over the incident, the State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the sad development. He assured the public that the security outfit has already swung into action and launched a manhunt for the criminals responsible for the abduction. He also gave hope that efforts were currently ongoing to ensure the safe return of Hon. Adepoyigi.
Adetunji Adeleye said:
“My men have launched a manhunt for the kidnappers and efforts are ongoing to secure Adepoyigi’s safe release.”
In addition, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ondo State Police Command, Olushola Ayanlade, also confirmed the incident. According to Ayanlade, the politician was kidnapped right at the entrance of his farm, further highlighting the vulnerability of residents even in rural and farmland areas.
Olushola Ayanlade stated:
“The politician was kidnapped at the entrance of his farm.”
This disturbing development comes amidst growing concerns about the state of security in various parts of Nigeria, especially in the South-West region. The people of Ifon and Ondo State at large are now calling on security agencies, community leaders, and government authorities to intensify efforts to bring an end to the scourge of kidnapping and insecurity that is plaguing their communities.
As of the time of this report, Hon. Nelson Adepoyigi remains in the custody of his abductors, and his family, supporters, and the people of Ward 5 are anxiously waiting and praying for his safe return.
