Troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN Successfully Neutralize Two Armed Bandits in Plateau State, Recover Cache of Weapons and Ammunition

In a significant operation that underscores the ongoing efforts to combat insecurity in the country, the troops of 3 Division/Operation SAFE HAVEN have successfully neutralized two armed bandits during a raid in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State. The raid, which took place on Monday, May 12, 2025, resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and other items from a suspected bandits’ hideout located in the Teng Mountain/Forest area.

The operation, which was carried out based on credible intelligence, led to a fierce encounter between the troops and the criminal elements. According to sources close to the operation, the troops, who were well-prepared and strategically positioned, made contact with the bandits, overwhelming them with superior firepower. This tactical advantage resulted in the neutralization of two of the armed suspects, who were reportedly engaged in criminal activities in the region.

During the operation, the following items were recovered from the hideout:

  • One AK-47 rifle

  • One fabricated rifle capable of firing 7.62mm (Special) ammunition

  • One AK-47 magazine

  • Seven rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition

  • Four mobile phones

  • Two motorcycles

  • N157,900 in cash

The recovery of these weapons, particularly the AK-47 rifle and the fabricated 7.62mm rifle, is a notable success in the ongoing battle against armed banditry. The rifles, along with the rounds of ammunition, are a clear indication of the level of preparedness of the bandits and the threat they posed to local communities.

The troops have since taken custody of the recovered weapons, and the mobile phones are currently being analyzed. Authorities are hopeful that the phones will provide critical information that can aid in tracking down and apprehending other members of the criminal gang who may still be at large. The examination of the mobile devices is expected to reveal communication data that could potentially lead to further arrests, disrupting the operations of the bandits in the region.

This successful operation adds to the growing list of efforts by the Nigerian military to curb the activities of armed groups terrorizing various parts of the country. The military’s continued success in such operations is seen as a hopeful sign of progress in the fight against insecurity, with the ultimate goal of restoring peace and safety to affected communities.

The Plateau State Government and local authorities have expressed their gratitude to the troops for their professionalism and quick response, which have significantly weakened the activities of these criminals. As the investigation continues, the military has pledged to maintain its vigilance and continue operations aimed at neutralizing armed bandits and restoring law and order to the region.

Residents of Plateau State, particularly in rural areas, have welcomed the news of the operation, expressing hope that it will lead to a decrease in the wave of criminal activities that have plagued the state for years. Many have called for more such raids to be carried out to ensure that those responsible for terrorizing innocent civilians are brought to justice.

The military’s efforts remain crucial in restoring peace to Nigeria’s affected regions, and this raid serves as a reminder of the tireless work being done behind the scenes to protect lives and property.
