“We’re Not Moving Press Briefings to London” – Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, Clears the Air
In a strong and clear response to recent rumors circulating in some quarters, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has officially denied claims that the Ministerial Press Briefing Sessions are being moved from Abuja to London.
The Minister made this important clarification on Friday, May 16, while speaking at the eighth edition of the Ministerial Press Briefing Session, which took place as usual at the National Press Centre in Abuja.
While giving his opening remarks, Mohammed Idris addressed the growing speculation and misinformation about the venue of the press briefings. According to him, the idea that such an important event — meant to inform Nigerians about government policies and activities — would be held outside the country is completely untrue and misleading.
“The insinuation that the press briefing session is relocating abroad is false because we have our responsibility first to the Nigerian nation. That is why we invite these ministers to come here and address Nigerians and those outside the country, directly from the National Press Centre, here in Abuja. The only platform that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation provided for the briefing session, is right here,” he said.
The Minister emphasized that the government, especially the Ministry of Information and National Orientation, remains fully committed to serving Nigerians first, and ensuring that the press briefings remain accessible to the local press, citizens, and even international audiences — all from within Nigeria.
He explained that the National Press Centre in Abuja is still the only official venue provided by the ministry for these sessions. That’s where ministers are invited to give updates, clarify issues, and answer questions on behalf of the federal government.
Mohammed Idris also made it clear that these sessions are part of the government’s efforts to improve transparency, engage with the public, and keep citizens informed about what is happening in the country.
So for those wondering or confused by the rumors, the message is now loud and clear: the Federal Government has not relocated the Ministerial Press Briefing Sessions to London or anywhere outside Nigeria. Everything is still happening right here, in Abuja, where it belongs.
