Chaos at Enugu Airport: Workers Ground Flights Over Concession Drama

Flight operations at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu ground to a halt on Friday, February 6, as aviation workers staged a protest against the Federal Government’s concessioning plans.

The industrial action comes amid growing anxiety over the airport’s handover to a South-East governor and a prominent Anambra businessman, with workers demanding clarity on their futures.

“The airport has been concessioned without consideration for our welfare. They say full takeover is in two years, but nothing about us,” a source told SaharaReporters.

Attempts by aviation unions to engage the alleged concessionaires and government officials reportedly yielded no concrete commitments. Following directives from national union offices, workers shut down all flight operations, leaving passengers stranded and frustrated.

Videos circulating online show crowds milling in the terminal, venting their anger at the sudden shutdown and lack of official communication.

Neither the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) nor the unions have commented further, leaving the fate of operations and staff hanging in uncertainty.
