BREAKING: Boko Haram Strikes Again — Soldiers Killed, Armoured Tanks Torched in Borno Base Attack

At least several Nigerian soldiers are feared dead after Islamic State–linked militants from Boko Haram’s ISWAP faction stormed an army base in Jakana, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday morning, military sources have told SaharaReporters.

The insurgents reportedly attacked in multiple groups, shooting indiscriminately before targeting the military facility with explosives. Armoured tanks and military vehicles were set ablaze, while large quantities of ammunition were seized. Several soldiers fled into surrounding bush areas, and others remain unaccounted for.

“An attack occurred this morning at an Army outpost along Maiduguri/Damaturu Road, Jakana town, by Boko Haram terrorists, with many casualties on our side. Corpses have been transferred to 7 Div military hospital in Maiduguri,” a source said.

This assault comes just days after another deadly attack on a military base in Sabon Gari, Damboa LGA, which claimed seven soldiers, including a newly promoted Lieutenant Colonel. Military sources confirmed the use of explosives and heavy gunfire in both attacks.

ISWAP, which has consolidated power in Lake Chad regions since the death of JAS leader Abubakar Shekau, has absorbed hundreds of defecting Boko Haram fighters. Despite repeated claims by the Nigerian Army that the insurgency is largely under control, these attacks underscore that the group continues to destabilize Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states, having caused over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions.

As investigations continue, the exact number of soldiers killed or missing in the Jakana attack remains unconfirmed.
