Fear Grips Kwara Community as Another Attack Rocks Area, Coming Just 48 Hours After 162 Killed
Chaos erupted in Kaiama town, Kwara State, on Thursday evening as terrified residents fled Kara cattle market following reports of suspected armed terrorists in the area, SaharaReporters has learnt.
The incident comes barely 48 hours after a massacre reportedly claimed at least 162 lives, leaving the community on edge. Sources told SaharaReporters that the market, usually bustling with traders and shoppers, descended into panic as strangers believed to be armed suddenly appeared, sparking a stampede.
“One moment people were trading normally, the next we were running for our lives,” a resident said. “I even had to leave foodstuffs I bought for my business. The panic was intense.”
Locals expressed frustration over the perceived ineffectiveness of security forces. “Soldiers are here, but all they do is patrol in vans. The market is still vulnerable,” the source added.
Videos circulating on social media show a tense scene, with traders and shoppers fleeing in all directions. One TikTok user captioned footage: ‘Bandits are now our president because we fear them like God.’
Residents say local youths had repeatedly warned authorities about armed strangers camping in nearby forests, but no decisive action was taken before the attacks. Despite the presence of soldiers, traders and residents remain skeptical about the protection provided.
Efforts to get comments from the Nigerian Army and the Kwara State Government were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
