Ogun Okada Rider Unalived Over ₦100 Ticket, Riders Take to Streets in Rage
Chaos erupted across Ijoko, Lambe, and Agbado in Ogun State on Wednesday after a commercial motorcyclist was allegedly st@bbed to death during a dispute over a ₦100 transport ticket.
The fatal confrontation involved the deceased and members of a transport union levy collection group, commonly known as agberos, on the night of Tuesday, February 2, 2026. Sources say a heated argument escalated quickly, ending in violence.
Eyewitnesses report that two riders were st@bbed, though only one survived. One motorcyclist, Rasheed, told Punch:
“They were fighting over a N100 ticket. It started as a small argument before it escalated. The person who was killed is from Nasarawa, and his colleagues are now confronting agberos across Lambe, Ijoko, and parts of Akute.”
The killing sparked spontaneous protests by commercial motorcyclists, with many riders refusing to work, disrupting local transport and forcing commuters to trek to their destinations. Tensions remained high throughout the day, with additional scuffles reported between riders and levy collectors.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident, clarifying it occurred in Ijoko, within the Agbado-Sango axis. Police have since made arrests in connection with the violent altercation.
The incident underscores rising conflicts between transport workers and union collectors in Ogun State, raising concerns about safety, law enforcement presence, and the broader tension within local commuter systems.
