Politics Can Wait, Abuja Comes First: Wike Assures FCT Residents Ahead of 2027

Abuja — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has reassured residents that political activities surrounding the 2027 elections will not interfere with his duties or ongoing projects in Abuja.

During an inspection of key infrastructure works on Wednesday, Wike emphasized that he has the capacity to balance political involvement with effective governance, prioritizing service delivery and oversight of life-impacting projects.

The minister addressed criticisms that he might be neglecting FCT duties due to political engagements in River State, where he has been entangled in a long-standing dispute with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Politics is not going to affect my work. The only way it will affect work is to make people happy by ensuring that the Renewed Hope Agenda is real and working,” Wike said, highlighting his commitment to citizens.

During his tour, Wike inspected:

  • The road linking Baze University, Body of Benchers, Nile University, and the Wupa Light Rail Station in Idu, slated for completion by May, coinciding with the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu.
  • The Body of Benchers extension building, now 80% complete, with only landscaping remaining.
  • A 7km road connecting Airport Road to Tunga Madaki and neighboring communities, with plans to link it to Zuba in line with FCTA’s promise to improve accessibility across the FCT.

The minister underscored that while politics has its time, the ongoing infrastructure development and supervision of contractors remain his top priority.

The work continues. Paying contractors, supervising projects, and ensuring timely delivery—this is how we serve the people,” Wike added.

This statement comes as part of Wike’s effort to assure Abuja residents that their daily lives and urban development will not be sidelined by national political ambitions.
