Chris Brown Arrested in Manchester Over Alleged Nightclub Assault from 2023 – Faces $16M Lawsuit

American R&B superstar, Chris Brown, has once again found himself in serious legal trouble. The 36-year-old singer was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, May 15, at a luxury hotel in Manchester, UK, in connection to a violent incident that allegedly occurred two years ago at a nightclub in London.

According to reports, officers from the Metropolitan Police tracked the singer to The Lowry Hotel in Salford, just hours after he touched down in the city via a private jet. He was reportedly preparing to kick off his highly anticipated world tour, which is scheduled to begin in just three weeks.

However, those plans may now be in jeopardy.

The Met Police confirmed Brown's arrest in an official statement to The Independent. The statement read:

“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 2am on Thursday, May 15 on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
He has been taken into custody where he remains.
The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on February 19, 2023.
The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”

This arrest stems from a serious allegation made by music producer Abraham Diaw, who claims he was violently attacked by Brown during a night out at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, a wealthy area in London’s West End. According to Diaw, the assault took place in February 2023, more than a year ago, but has only now led to police action.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Abraham Diaw described the alleged incident in chilling detail:

“He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well.”

Diaw says he sustained both physical and emotional injuries from the incident and has now filed a civil lawsuit against Chris Brown, seeking a staggering $16 million (around £12 million) in damages for the pain, trauma, and financial losses he claims to have suffered as a result of the attack.

While Chris Brown has not publicly responded to the allegations or lawsuit, his legal team will likely be preparing a strong defense, especially given the size of the financial claim.

The arrest is particularly bad timing for the award-winning artist, who is set to begin his Breezy Bowl XX World Tour, with a major show planned at Co-op Live in Manchester next month. It's currently unclear whether this legal trouble will affect the tour schedule, or whether Brown will be allowed to travel freely while the investigation continues.

Chris Brown is known worldwide for his music, with hit singles like "Run It!", "Gimme That", and countless other chart-toppers. He has also collaborated with global stars like Lil Wayne, Drake, and Justin Bieber. But throughout his career, he has frequently made headlines for more than just his music.

Back in 2009, Brown was infamously arrested for assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, the global pop icon. That incident shocked fans around the world and led to significant backlash. Brown ultimately pleaded guilty to felony assault and accepted a plea deal that included:

  • Community labor

  • Five years of probation

  • Domestic violence counseling

Since then, while Brown has continued to release music and tour the world, he has also faced multiple controversies involving violent behavior, although none have reached the level of his 2009 case—until now.

This latest development could have major implications for Brown’s career, public image, and financial future. A criminal conviction for grievous bodily harm (GBH) in the UK can carry serious penalties, including jail time. And if Diaw’s civil suit is successful, it could cost Brown millions in damages.

Fans around the world are now watching closely to see what happens next.
