Lagos Police Arrest Four Over Kidnap and Sale of Two-Week-Old Baby – Child Rescued in Badagry

In a heartbreaking and deeply disturbing development, the Lagos State Police Command has successfully arrested four suspects involved in the abduction and illegal sale of a newborn baby boy, just two weeks after his birth.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the entire incident began with a report received by the Ajah Police Division on May 5, 2025. A concerned individual had approached the police to report that his 16-year-old cousin, identified as Miss Happiness, was impregnated by an unknown man. This young girl, already in a vulnerable situation due to her age, soon found herself at the center of a criminal conspiracy.

Following the report, police investigations uncovered shocking details. Due to financial hardship, the complainant’s mother had made the difficult decision to temporarily place Miss Happiness in the care of a woman known as Nonye Osi. This arrangement was meant to provide the teenager with shelter and care until she gave birth.

However, what was supposed to be an act of kindness turned into a terrible betrayal.

Nonye Osi conspired with others to relocate Miss Happiness to an unknown location. When she was eventually found, she was without her pregnancy and the baby,” CSP Hundeyin said.

The situation took a darker turn when it was discovered that the baby had been stolen and sold shortly after delivery.

The case was promptly transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more detailed and discreet investigation. Through careful and methodical work, the detectives were able to unravel the chain of events and identify the key suspects involved in the criminal conspiracy.

CSP Hundeyin revealed:

Following transfer of the case to the SCID for discreet investigation, the police arrested the following suspects who had conspired and sold the baby for Three Million Naira (N3,000,000.00): Nonye Osi ‘f’, Akintan Adedayo ‘f’, Jimoh Bashiru ‘m’, Elizabeth Bishop ‘f’ and Bukola Oladapo ‘f’.

This group of five individuals – three women and two men – reportedly worked together to sell the innocent child, turning the life of a young mother into a nightmare.

But there is a light at the end of this harrowing story.

Through painstaking efforts, detectives traced and successfully recovered the stolen two-week-old baby boy from Agemuwo, Badagry area. The child was found safe and sound.” Hundeyin said.

Thankfully, the police were able to track down the location of the baby in the Badagry area of Lagos and safely recover him. The baby is reportedly in good health and under the care of the Gender/Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the command.

Hundeyin further assured the public that the baby is currently being well looked after and is receiving the necessary attention and support until he can be reunited with his biological mother, Miss Happiness.

This case highlights the dangers vulnerable girls and young mothers face in society and the extreme importance of vigilance, proper child welfare, and community support. The Lagos State Police Command continues to urge members of the public to report suspicious activities and cases of abuse, trafficking, or exploitation to the appropriate authorities.
