JAMB Reacts to Massive Complaints Over 2025 UTME Results, Launches Full-Scale Investigation

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially launched an in-depth investigation into the growing number of complaints it has received concerning the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). According to the board, this move is aimed at identifying and addressing any technical issues that might have affected the conduct or outcomes of the exam.

Over the past few weeks, since the release of the 2025 UTME results, a significant number of candidates and parents across the country have raised concerns about what they describe as unusual issues — including missing scores, extremely low marks that don’t reflect the student’s preparation level, and other irregularities. In response, JAMB is taking action to ensure that these concerns are thoroughly looked into and resolved.

According to a statement released by Fabian Benjamin, the Public Communication Advisor of the board, JAMB acknowledged the unusual nature of the complaints it has been receiving and confirmed that it has put together a special team of professionals to carry out a comprehensive review of the entire UTME process.

“In response, the Board is fast-forwarding its annual system review — a comprehensive post-mortem of the examination process usually conducted months after the exercise,” the statement read.

This special investigation team is made up of respected and highly qualified experts from different fields related to education and technology. Among those involved are:

  • Members of the Computer Professionals Association of Nigeria,

  • Chief External Examiners (these are usually senior heads of tertiary institutions),

  • The Educational Assessment and Research Network in Africa,

  • Measurement and Evaluation experts, and

  • Several Vice Chancellors from universities across Nigeria.

The idea behind this is to bring in independent, credible voices that can assess whether the problems being reported by candidates were caused by genuine system errors or if there are other explanations.

JAMB also revealed that this review is not limited to just the exam day alone. The investigation will examine every step of the process, starting from when candidates register for the UTME, to the actual writing of the exam, and finally, to the release of the results.

According to the board:

“We are currently scrutinising these complaints in detail to identify and rectify any potential technical issues,” the statement continued. “If it is determined that there were indeed glitches, we will implement appropriate remedial measures promptly, as we do in the case of the examinations themselves.”

This means that if it is found that a candidate's performance was affected by any form of technical disruption or malfunction — such as problems with computer systems during the exam, poor internet connection, power outages, or errors during result processing — JAMB will take immediate steps to correct the situation. This may include rescheduling the exam for affected candidates, adjusting scores if necessary, or taking other corrective actions as required.

The board also mentioned that it is particularly paying attention to complaints coming from specific states. While no particular states were named in the public statement, it suggests that the board is seeing a pattern in the location of these issues, which could help narrow down the root causes.

Over the years, JAMB has always maintained that it takes technical disruptions very seriously. In past UTME exercises, the board has re-conducted exams for students whose tests were affected by such challenges. This year is no different, and JAMB is assuring candidates and the general public that it remains committed to fairness, transparency, and accuracy in the conduct of its exams.

As JAMB continues its investigation, candidates are encouraged to remain calm and patient. Those who believe they were affected by technical issues or other irregularities are advised to lodge formal complaints through the appropriate JAMB support channels. This way, their cases can be included in the ongoing review.
