Tragedy on Lagos Road: One Dead, Two Injured in Early Morning Crash at Iyana Era Bus Stop

A tragic road traffic accident occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025, along the busy Tradefair-Agbara Road in Lagos State, claiming the life of one person and leaving two others injured. The devastating crash happened around 5:36 a.m. at Iyana Era Bus Stop, a popular and usually busy transit point for commuters in that axis.

According to a statement released by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, the crash involved two vehicles—one commercial and the other private.

Confirming the incident, FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Mr. Kehinde Hamzat, said:

"The unfortunate crash involved two vehicles: a blue Mack truck with registration number AKD 579 XM (commercial) and a silver Lexus saloon car with registration number LSR 545 JN (private)."

He further explained that the accident was quite severe, involving a total of five adult male occupants across both vehicles. However, while three of the men were either fatally affected or sustained injuries, two others managed to escape unhurt or with minor bruises.

Giving details on what may have led to the fatal accident, Mr. Hamzat stated:

"Preliminary investigations by FRSC indicate that the crash was caused by Speed Violation (SPV) and Loss of Control (LOC), in spite of the smooth condition of the road."

This statement highlights a common and very troubling cause of accidents on Nigerian roads—reckless speeding. Despite the road being in good condition, the driver or drivers involved were said to have lost control, possibly due to excessive speed or misjudgment while navigating traffic or overtaking.

The impact of the collision was described as "violent," with the force of the crash strong enough to cause the death of one adult male on the spot, while two other passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.

"The violent impact of the crash led to the death of one male adult, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries," Mr. Hamzat added.

In a commendable show of readiness and swift emergency response, the FRSC boss confirmed that the rescue team arrived at the accident scene within four minutes of being alerted. This quick arrival helped ensure that the injured victims received immediate attention and were not left helpless for long.

"The emergency response team arrived at the scene within four minutes of the report and worked swiftly to manage the situation," he said.

The two injured victims were quickly rushed to Alimosho General Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment. The identities of the victims have not yet been made public, pending notification of their families.

In closing, Commander Kehinde Hamzat expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased individual, acknowledging the deep sorrow that such a sudden loss brings.

He offered his condolences to the family of the deceased.

NaijaRush joins the FRSC in extending our deepest sympathies to the grieving family. This incident serves as yet another painful reminder of the dangers of speeding on Nigerian roads. We urge all drivers—whether commercial or private—to obey speed limits, remain alert, and drive responsibly at all times. Every life on the road matters.

Stay safe, Nigeria.
