Teenager and Woman Remanded for Trafficking Two Victims to Ghana
A Badagry Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos has remanded a 17-year-old girl, Damilola Basiru, and 25-year-old Loveth Christian in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, following allegations of trafficking two individuals.
The two defendants are facing charges related to human trafficking and contemporary slavery.
Chief Magistrate, Mr. Patrick Adekomaiya, did not take the defendants' pleas during the hearing. He ordered that the case file be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further advice. The case has been adjourned until June 30 to allow time for the DPP’s advice.
Earlier, Prosecutor Insp. Ayodele Adeosun informed the court that the defendants committed the crimes on April 26 at 1:30 p.m. in Ajara Agamathen, Badagry.
Adeosun explained that the defendants illegally trafficked two individuals, aged 18 and 15, to Ghana, where they were sold and treated as slaves.
The offences allegedly violated Sections 411 and 276 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
